Dear Cast,
Just a little entry to say how wonderful it was to have a reunion with all of you.
After all that pining and asking each other... "when and where are we going to have a reunion?"
It has finally....come, and gone.
Some recap of my personal favourite moments:
1. Going through the ppt presentation of our baby beginnings...till the big night.
2. Eating...and watching the video - FINALLY!
3. Having a "live telecast" of the chinese dance by our cast - when all of us were caught in a fix "Which one to watch? The real thing on screen, or the pseudo dancers at the back of the music room?"
4. Presenting the little stars.
And...the good-bye.
Till the next Metamorphosis...

After 2 long months of intensive rehearsals, the scoldings, the fun and laughter, the never-ending debriefs, the tears, the joy, getting costumes, making your own costumes, the sleepless nights, the memorizing of lines, the memorizing of body movements, props, publicity, backstage work, sound, lightings, the balancing of school work/family/friends/cca/projects/remedials, the warmups (remember our HEY DUDE! Blind-stage-walk, forfeits!), the 45degrees that I kept harping over and over again, the bloooooooooopers, from the hall-to AVA-to the hall-to the AUDITORIUM, to the makeup, hair-dos, to the waiting at the holding room, the pictures, to the waiting at backstage for your turn, how you felt when you finished your scene, how you felt during curtain call, how you felt when we did our final bow, and when you reached home, and realised that STARBURST 2007 - you were actually part of it.
As you journey on in life, in any point in time when you feel worthless and unable to do something, take heart, and remember, that there is a star shining inside you, believe, and you will burst forth into radiance, whatever, and wherever you may be.

So for all the CAST and PERFORMERS, please don't forget what you've practised, and all the directions/areas of improvements that has been highlighted to you so far. Get used to the stage, looking around the auditorium, and what you will need to do on the actual performance.

Ticket Sales
After all the hard work , it is only fair that your talents are showcased to as many people as possible. Thus , as briefed, please rah rah rah your family members, friends, seniors, ex-students etc to purchase tickets.
CCA groups /Grps by scene: Give your order form and money to any of the three teachers tomorrow (Wednesday). Latest :Thursday Morning.
A rough estimate as to how many tickets u should target to sell would be :
If your group has 10 people, add 5 more ...target = 15.
Let us all do our part to support the ARTS :-) ...and of course, the whole cast.

6 MORE DAYS.NOTES from Today's RehearsalI've covered them with each of you during debrief, and also in the CRUCIAL notes 2 posts earlier. Now, it's time for each of us to perservere, and have at least 3 SOLID practices before the ACTUAL PERFORMANCE.As explained, there will be quite a few things we need to keep in mind as we have our practices. I'm aiming for our last 2 practices to be a FULL RUN-THROUGH, NON-STOP.This includes:1. PROPS2. SET CHANGES3. SOUND 4. LIGHTING5. QUICK COSTUME CHANGES6. EXCHANGE OF MICs7. LINES REMEMBERED, NO CHANGING OF LINES8. ACTING ON CENTER STAGE9. NO JAMMING OF SPACE AT THE BACKSTAGE, UNNECCESSARY TALKING, PLAYING.We need to treat each and every single practice as if it is the ACTUAL performance, so that you will be sure of what you are supposed to do, and not miss your timing, etc on the actual day.The backstage is not very HUGE, so even with just a bit of noise, it will be very obvious, and the backstage crew, or yourselves, will not be able to concentrate. Online Debrief after today's Rehearsal - Crucial
The following notes are the most important areas for you to take note of - things I've been repeating. Without trying to leak out our plot, there'll be parts below where I'll be speaking in riddles - where only we'll understand :)
Guests: DO NOT CROWD at the back. NO straight lines! Remember what was practised for our new special scene. Remember to enter correctly at final scene.
Emperor: ANGRIER please. NO 90degrees!
Empress: Take your lines SLOWLY.
Oliver: Ahhhhh...Your Majesty! (You know what I mean)
Playmates: Take your lines SLOWLY. Point. Giggle. Don't stand still. Don't turn heads back for Tiara.
Tiara: Can try to challenge yourself with more eye contact with audience now.
Isotope: Talk slower. It's YOUR scene! Remember our secret codes at special scene.
Twins: Fill up silence/gaps with your special "effects". Keep the special -c- timing going.
Macik: Remember your LINES. Be natural. Feel your character.
Dittos: SMILE. JUMP. BE HAPPY. MIME when scene is on.
Phantoms: Don't lose your VOICE. Special scene needs more rehearsals. Please confirm what needs to be said and acted out.
Prince: Look further to audience. More eye contact ACROSS the auditorium. Remember your "small little habit" - change it to bigger hand movements whenever that happens. Take care of your kneecaps.
FOR ALL: Be focused - you need to be in character throughout. Lots of things will be happening backstage, which you need to be as quiet as possible, and work with the many people moving in/out, and with the backstage crew, lighting, sound, audience's reaction.
DO NOT scream into the mike.
Learn to act according to audience's reactions - we have been practicising for such a long time, so we are used to it. But we won't know how the audience will react to the script/acting - so each of you have to stay focused.
See you this Sat: 9am, Hall, rehearsal with all PROPS.
Attendance is compulsory - please approach any of the teachers if you cannot make it for this Sat's rehearsal by Friday 12pm.
Reminder: Pass the POSTERS to me this Sat, and the special ice-sticks (from our secret mission team) on monday.

COUNTDOWN TO 10 DAYS!!!
Alright - CAST, PERFORMERS, CREW -
Rehearsal tomorrow (22/7/07): 330pm, AVA.
Please have a quick meal and see you at AVA.
Discipline is needed. And I mean, very strict self-discipline needed from all of you.
Let's aim for 1 solid full rehearsal - as if it's the real thing - with thousand of eyes looking at you.
After that, I will get some of you to stay back for more in-depth "revision".
With 10 days left, we need to make each and every of our practices as near to the real thing as much as we can. When we go to the auditorium for the full dress rehearsal, we will have to coordinate with the lightings, sound, and many other aspects. So each of you have to be very confident and responsible for your own parts as best as possible, alright?
We've less than 5 rehearsals left. I know our hearts are all bursting already - but we have to keep calm, and stay as focused as possible, and show everyone our best.
Meanwhile, some updates.
1. We've visited Xinghua Primary.
2. Tomorrow some of us are going to Hougang Primary.
3. Coming Monday: St. Gab Primary.

Calling for All Ditto Kids, Fairy God Makcik and others who need to bring own costumes.Please bring your costumes / accessories / shoes to me for approval. Do ensure they are in the following conditions when you bring them to me.
1) Washed and no funny smells.
2) Ironed and hung on a hanger.
3) Put a plastic cover over it. Otherwise, just place them in a bag big enough so as not to be crumpled.
4) Shoes and accessories are to be placed in boxes.
5) Label with your name and class.
Please see me with your costumes on either Thursday or Friday , immediately after school.

As we work on our play, it is also helpful for us to review what we've learnt during literature lessons, as well as some terms that you should know :)
1. Playwright: someone who writes dramatic literature, usually to be performed. A playwright is also known as a dramatist.
2. Script: refers to the narrative, dialogue and instructions that a playwright creates for performance.
3. Stage directions: there are 2 different meanings behind this term. Read on!
(a) It can refer to the laying out of the various portions of a theatre stage - in 9 general areas. Refer to this website for the diagram.

italics, CAPS,
bold,
or within [parenthesis]. Generally what distinguishes stage directions from the script is obvious from the fact that the script comes in the form of a dialogue.
4. Act: The main dramatic unit in the play usually completing a part of the action and having a climax on its own.
5. Scene: A sub-unit within an act.
6. Character: A fictional character is an imaginary person created for a work of fiction.
7. Protagonist: The central figure in the story. He/She can either be the hero or the villian.
8. Antagonist: He/She creates the most challenges and obstacles that the Protagonist must overcome.
9. Setting: The circumstances which form the background to the story, specificially the time and place of the "action".
10. Theme: The underlying central issue of the playwright wants to convey.

My dearest CAST,
It has been a real long holiday - and filled with our rehearsals in between.
Just want to share some reflections before school starts on Monday :)
*Really proud of all of you for putting in so much effort into the play. I've seen how each of you have opened up - right from the first day of rehearsals to the one we had a few days ago. Even during warmups, I'm encouraged to see how each of you improved in the "Blind Trust Stage Walk" to the "HEY DUDE!", etc.
*It takes effort and commitment from EACH and EVERYONE of us to put a play together. Everyone is equally important, no matter which role you may take - large roles, or small roles, lines to remember, or no lines to remember. Once you're on stage, spotlights will be on you, and we need each other in order, to cooperate, to understand each other, to try our best, for a passionate play - that will touch the audiences' hearts.
*Most of you have put in loads of hard work in memorizing the lines (esp our Farizuan - great job - keep it going), to your facial expressions (look into the audience's eyes!), to the positioning on the stage (45 degrees!!!), to the body language, right down to each and every second on stage, and each and every movement. It is not easy, but if we try, we persevere, we will get there. We're already at the halfway mark, so STARBURST-IANS, we can do it!
*When school reopens, there will be a whirlwind of work for us to do, and each of you will have to remember, to try to balance your studies, the play, your cca, your HEALTH, and how you choose to spend your time. The teachers will be here for you, and your friends, and each of you in the cast - I hope, will be supporting each other along the way.
*As we embark on a new semester, and as we continue our rehearsals full-swing, let's be encouraged by each other, and each of us to be committed to doing our best - for a good show!
*Stay tuned to wearing your costumes all over the school, to other schools, to selling tickets, to exciting everyone to watch our play, for this experience of your life in Yuying Secondary.
